Crossfire

Biography

Fromwikipedia

Crossfire was an Australian jazz-fusion band active from 1974-1983, and were one of Australia's most successful jazz-fusion groups, recording several albums for Warner Music. The primary composers of the group were founding members Jim Kelly (guitars) and Michael Kenny (keyboards, piano). Other members over the years included Ian Bloxsom (percussion, glockenspiel), Greg Lyon and Phil Scorgie (electric bass), Don Reid and Tony Buchanan (saxophones, flute), John Proud, Doug Gallacher, Steve Hopes, and Mark Riley (drums). Crossfire reunited briefly for 1991's Tension Release. A highlight for the group was their performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, which was recorded and released as a live album. In total Crossfire recorded five studio albums, the live album Live at Montreux, plus a live album as support band for the American jazz singer Michael Franks:

Pleased to see Crossfire hasn't been forgotten, although I note that Ross's recommendation is nearly seven years old. This album and its predecessor, 'East of Where' stand up as excellent examples of their genre. Crossfire could easily hold its own with any of the American or European 'fusion' outfits, and Phil Scorgie must surely be the most under-rated bass guitarist ever! Listen to 'Youth in Asia' from Hysterical Rochords and you will see what I am talking about. Jim Kelly also deserves mention for his imaginative and original guitar work, particularly evident on 'No Hands Jive', again from Hysterical Rochords. Marvellous compositions and assured ensemble performances make Crossfire well worth investigating.

Delighted to see this fine outfit get another mention. Thoroughly enjoyed one of their live performances backing Michael Franks in Sydney, back in 1980 - if my memory is correct.
