Jakob Bro (born 1978) is a Danish jazz guitarist. Bro has never received any musical training besides short periods spent at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, the Berklee College of Music in Boston and New School University in New York. Jakob Bro has a successful career as a solo artist with artistic collaborations artists such as Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Lee Konitz, Ben Street, Thomas Morgan, Kurt Rosenwinkel among others. He is known in the jazz world for his involvement with bands and artists such as Paul Motian & The Electric Bebop Band, Tomasz Stańko Quintet as well as his soloalbums feat. contributions for such household names as, and also more rock orientated bands such as Got You On Tape, Teitur, Povl Dissing and Steffen Brandt. Again in 2009 with the orchestra Bandapat and "Cross-Year of Release 2009". In 2010 sees the major commercial breakthrough withBalladeering. An album recorded entirely in new Yorks Avatar Studio feat. Lee Konitz (sax), Paul Motian (dr), Ben Street (bas) and Jakob Bro and Bill Frisell on guitar. Bro receives the Prize "Best Jazz release" . The album also received "Album of the Year" in Danish Jazz Special . New Yorker Jazz Journal All About Jazz calls it "A true artwork that brings out the best in the players" and Bro gets attention from US media such as Jazztimes and Downbeat. The praises continues with the sequel album Time from 2011. This time the sound is even more minimal and the setup also. Still with Frisell and Konitz, but now US basplayer Thomas Morgan is included with Bro in the Avatar Studio. The album is recorded in only 1 day an released in late 2011. The Danish paper Politiken called Time "masterpiece of Danish jazz history". And the international press to followup. Dutch Written in Music gives 4,5 out of 5 and and American jazz blogger Jazz Wrap announce "Time" album of the year, French JAZZMAN choose Time as "Pick of The Month".
