HIDDEN ERROR: Usage of "Known as" is not recognized Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 - June 6, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist. Playing primarily the tenor saxophone, Getz was known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, his prime influence being the wispy, mellow timbre of his idol, Lester Young. Early life: Getz was a born on February 2, 1927, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Philadelphia. I remember Gerry Mulligan 78s back in the 50s when he hit the cool jazz scene with his piano-less quartet.
Loved his music then, still loving it. Thanks
