Stefano Bollani

Stefano Bollani (born 5 December 1972, Milan) is an Italian jazz pianist from Campi bisenzio. He made his professional debut at fifteen and received his diploma in piano from the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence. He performs classical music, smooth jazz, avant-garde jazz, Brazilian jazz, and pop rock. In 1998, Musica Jazz magazine voted him Best Jazz Talent of the Year and later he would be awarded for jazz by a New Swing group in Japan. While he is mostly known for his collaborations with Enrico Rava, he has made several albums as a leader, and has been favourably acknowledged by several long established jazz musicians, such as Martial Solal. The album Mi ritorni in mente, includes an interpretation of the standard "Nature Boy" which has been acclaimed by many.

I saw Signore Bollani at the Melbourne International Festival some years ago when it hosted Umbria Jazz in Melbourne with a large contingent of Italian musicians. He was brilliant and perhaps the standout performer of the group - which had some excellent musicians. When will a festival invite him to return?

Hi Ana and ABC JAZZ,

my name is Mirko Guerrini and I was playing tenor saxophone in Stefano Bollani's band in 2005.
I came back here in Melbourne several times and since last March I moved here!
I play quite often in the city with all the great musicians you have here in town, and next November I'll perform at Wangaratta Jazz Festival with Steve Magnusson, Frank DiSario and Niko Schauble.

I'll try to bring Bollani again here in Aussie.

thanks for your kind words
