2010 Melbourne International Jazz Festival
There are over 95 events, 20 free concerts and 16 World premieres.
It all begins with The Big Jam, a free event at Federation square, which calls for members of the audience to bring along their musical prowess to join in some mass music-making and improvisation, led by James Morrison and children’s educators Nico Brown, Martin Brunsden and Gillian Howell.
For fans that prefer to watch rather than participate, the week long program includes luminaries like Charles Lloyd (USA), John Abercrombie (USA), Zakir Hussain (India), Ahmad Jamal (USA), Mulatu Astatke (Ethopia), Peter Brotzmann (Germany), Avishai Cohen (Isreal), John Hollenbeck (USA), and Theo Bleckmann (Germany/USA).
The Australian contingent is headed up by a world premiere performance of Miles Davis: Prince of Darkness, a tribute by the Australian Art Orchestra and Paul Grabowsky. Other locals performing include the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, Jamie Ohlers, Mike Nock, Jo Lowry, Stu Hunter, Flap!, and Paul Capsis.
In another tribute, an all-star line-up of contemporary Australian musicians will breathe life into some classic jazz standards in Baby It’s Cold Outside. Artists include Claire Bowditch, Lior, Whitley, and Megan Washington, together with the Joe Chindamo Trio.

JA indeed. Sounds like a nice gig to see at the Blue Note....
Thanks Daniel.
Hi there
this looks like a photo of John Abercrombie...
I was lucky enough to seem him play with colleagues late last year @ the Blue Note in Manhattan. Fantastic performance by all.
I love how JA can play across multiple genres with ease and continue to explore the emotionality of the music.
cheers
