Lead by pianist/composer Mark Isaacs, the band features great Australian instrumentalists - James Muller on guitar, Matt Keegan on saxophone, Brett Hirst on bass and Tim Firth on drums.

It was an excellent start to the tour. A reasonable-sized audience at the ANU School of Music Band Room, although it could have been better. There is a LOT of jazz on this week in Canberra, so that may have contributed. As Bazza said, energy and creativity are the keywords for this band. They played a range of numbers from the previous and new albums, but in keeping with the jazz tradition gave them new life and meaning. You could not fault their level of commitment, both in the quiet, introspective passages and as well as the intense ones. I was able to get some good images which I should be able to process and publish online in a couple of days.
I was also fortunate to be able to sit in on a workshop that Mark held earlier that day with younger students, and was very impressed with his openness with the kids and the way he engaged with them and provided encouragement.
For a band on the first night of a tour, they were pretty tight. I guess it can only improve, so don't miss it. Our audience left very well satisfied and Mark did a roaring trade in CDs.
This is a "must see live" band to really appreciated the energy and creativity that they expose.
