Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis stands as a timeless masterpiece, and has sold more copies than any other jazz release in history. Radio National's Cathy Peters looks at the album's significance in a program drawing on the expertise of jazz writer Ashley Kahn and veteran players on the Australian scene Mike Nock and Allan Browne.
It's a remarkable album in many ways, as it pioneered a new approach to jazz improvisation and harmony and featured some of the most outstanding musicians of the time. It was recorded in two short studio sessions and has an immediacy that's palpable. Whether you've been a longtime lover of the album or have just discovered it, you'll find this program offers many insights into Miles, the musicians joining him, and the way they made Kind of Blue.

Fantastic doco. Just happened to switch over to Dig Jazz on the set top box as I was going out. Hit record and listened to the whole show when i came home. I love you ABC. When are you going to put Radio National and Classic FM on the STB too?
Really enjoyed hearing this on the wireless - loving that it's online now. Thanks :-)
This astounding album has provided a musical 'Road to Damascus' for a number of us. Hearing 'All Blues ' as a teenager simply took my breath away. No words could ever describe the powerful impressions this music generates.
