US trombone player Marshall Gilkes joins the WDR Big Band for his first recording leading a large ensemble.

'Koln' is the new album from trombone player Marshall Gilkes, who's teamed up with the WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) Big Band. Although this is his first record fronting a large ensemble, he does have serious credentials in the area, being a regular member of Maria Schneider's orchestra. He's also spent time with the WDR Big Band previously, holding down a trombone chair between 2010 and 2013. For this recording, Gilkes supplied all the compositions bar one.
