'The Deep Below' is a fitting title for Brian Landrus' new album, with a focus on the low end of woodwind instruments.

Multi-reedist Brian Landrus brings together drummer Billy Hart and bassist Lonnie Plaxico on his latest project - The Deep Below. Landrus is an emerging reed player from New York, and on this album, he performs on baritone saxophone, bass clarinet, bass saxophone and bass flute. The album is a mix of original tunes and standards, with Landrus tackling everything from Coltrane's 'Giant Steps' to Sinatra's 'I'm a Fool to Want You,' and the combination of drums, bass and low end woodwind is a nice change of pace from a more 'classic' sax trio or quartet.
