His entry was: Louis Armstrong is without doubt the defining American jazz musician. Although there have been great musicians before and after, Louis was the one who had the imagination and mastery of his instrument that changed the way that jazz could be played. By his great masterpieces recorded in the twenties, he spread the word, and EVERYONE who came after him was influenced by him and is in his debt
