This Week
Saturday, November 3
Today you can hear Elmo Hope and music recorded in the late 50's:a less well known but important figure in jazz piano. Allan Browne pays tribute to the great trumpeter/cornettist Wild Bill Davison on his latest Jazztrack studio recording and you'll hear the man himself from a classic 1943 session for Commodore Records.
There's Django in Rome in 1950, Stephane Grappelli with Duke Ellington in Paris, Freddie Cole's new recording plus some reissued John Handy from 1960... plus a wild version of Monk from guitarist Oz Noy: you'll either love it -or you'll hate it and write me nasty emails.
Sunday, November 4
Hear Lee Konitz in a recent release collaborating with Dave Liebman and pianist Richie Beirach. Master drummer Paul Motian, who died recently , is heard with Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Paul Bley. Also Vijay Iyer solo, big band music from Japan, more Fabian Almazan from the recent Wangaratta Jazz Festival and two German electronic music producers rework music from the ECM label.
Last Week:
Saturday, November 26
Today you can hear the late master drummer Paul Motian with Keith Jarrett in a duo recording from
1973. Also trombonist Chris Barber with some distinguished guests in the
60s, Shelley Mann and his Men in Manchester and a new solo recording
from guitarist Kenny Burrell. Plus a new Jazztrack recording featuring
poetry and music from the Allan Browne Sextet from Melbourne.
Sunday, November 27
Sunday's show will include music recorded exclusively for Jazztrack: Young Cuban born pianist Fabian Almazan and his trio featuring Australian bassist Linda Oh, Boston saxophonist
George Garzone with a great Australian band from the Uptown Jazz Club in
Melbourne plus a new Jazztrack studio recording of Melbourne band
Collider with Kynan Robinson and Adam Simmonds. New releases and
more....
