AIR winner: The World According To James

Sydney jazz group The World According To James have taken out the Best Independent Jazz Album category for their 2009 album 'Lingua Franca'.

Led by trombonist and pocket trumpet player James Greening, the album featured tracks composed by alto saxophonist Andrew Robson.  Completing the quartet were band members Steve Elphik (bass) and Toby Hall (drums).

The 4th Annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Awards were held last night, November 22 at The Forum Theatre, Melbourne and were presented by The Chaser's Julien Morrow.

Other nominees for the award were:

Greg Coffin Trio - It's Neither Either Or. It's Both And.
 
Julien Wilson and Stephen Magnusson - Kaleidoscopic.

Sam Anning, Alan Browne and Mark Hannaford - Homage.

The Mark Ginsburg Band - Generations.
