Charles Tolliver has been a pioneer in Jazz music since the 1960s.  The New York-based trumpet player and composer is known for his work with such jazz icons as Jackie McLean, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins and Art Blakey.  He is also a prolific writer, specialising in Big Band composition.

At the 2009 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Tolliver teamed up with The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra for the opening night event performance, playing some wild big band music with an abundance of solos!
