Gian Slater
May 19, 2012 Updated Jun 14, 2012

Melbourne vocalist and composer Gian Slater has been awarded a 2012 Early Career Fellowship by the Creative Australia Artist Grants initiative.

The Early Career Fellowship is valued at $60,000 over two years.  Gian plans to use the funding to develop mentorships with Theo Bleckmann and Meredith Monk in the United States and in Australia with Paul Grabowsky and Lucy Guerin.

"I am thrilled to be one of the emerging recipients of this amazing arts council initiative. It’s going to allow me to dedicate more time to the ideas that I have been developing, with greater momentum and focus.
There are so many road blocks in producing art, and this is like a big green light...go!"

Gian's work with the vocal group 'Invenio' has included their recent release Gone Without Saying as well as their partnership with Barney McAll on his album Graft.
