Scott LaFaro album and biography to be released
The album Pieces of Jade will be the latest posthumous release by bassist Scott LaFaro. The album celebrates LaFaro's life and music with previously unreleased performances, a recording of a rehearsal session with pianist Bill Evans and an interview with Evans about the bassist.
Other highlights include five selections recorded in New York City during 1961 that showcase LaFaro with pianist Don Friedman and drummer Pete LaRoca as well as a solo piano piece by Friedman recorded in 1985, entitled “Memories for Scotty."
In addition to Pieces of Jade, a biography will be released, entitled Jade Visions: The Life and Music of Scott LaFaro, written by LaFaro's sister, Helene LaFaro Hernandez. “We are very, very happy to release Jade Visions about the life of Scott LaFaro and written by his sister Helene," says Resonance label head George Klabin. “It's a fortuitous occasion.... to release the music and book together."
LaFaro died in an automobile accident in New York 1961. His death came just ten days after recording two live albums with the Bill Evans Trio, Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby, albums considered among the finest live jazz recordings.
