Wangaratta announces 2010 line up
The Grammy Award-winning US vocalist will return to The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz this October, 12 years after first performing at the event.
The festival's artistic director, Adrian Jackson spoke about the decision to invite Elling:
"One of the great things about this Festival is that we've been able to invite many international artists here who aren't necessarily well-known in this part of the world, and that was the case when Kurt came here in 1998. He made a huge impression. Audiences loved him, critics and musicians saw that he was the real deal, and he has since toured Australia regularly, winning more fans with every tour."
Other international artists to appear at this year's festival include:
- US saxophonist Oliver Lake (World Saxophone Quartet)
- Vocalist Sara Serpa (Portugal)
- Saxophonist Yuri Honing (Holland)
- Swedish Jazz Kings
- Aaron Choulai (Melbourne/Tokyo)
Aussies to take the stage include:
- James Morrison (with James Muller/Phil Stack)
- Mike Nock, New Quintet
- Andrea Keller Quartet
- Joe Chindamo Trio
- Bernie McGann Quartet
- Allan Browne Quintet
- Kristin Berardi/James Sherlock
- The Dilworths
Plus there's the finals of the National Jazz Awards, held each year at Wangaratta, which will feature brass players in 2010.
