The New York-based Bostonian Mary Halvorson is a guitarist who eschews any notions of categorizing music…her approach to improvisation reflects the range of her interests in contemporary creative music to experimental rock and noise... as well as the influence of Anthony Braxton. This concert features her long-standing trio with bassist John Hebert and drummer Ches Smith.
And a performance of Sydney pianist and composer Stu Hunter’s extended piece “The Gathering” with an all-star ensemble featuring bassist Jonathon Zwartz, drummer Simon Barker, trombonist and pocket trumpeter James Greening and saxophonists Julien Wilson and Matt Keegan – the concert has been widely regarded as one of the highpoints of the 2010 Wangaratta festival.
