Jazz Up Late:

Old, new and once rare

David S. Ware
Page added Oct 31, 2012 Updated Nov 9, 2012

Mixing historical and contemporary with re-issues and new releases... plus the late David S. Ware, regarded as one of Coltrane's true heirs.

Italian pianist Giorgio Gaslini transcribes and plays Albert Ayler solos, American drummer Matt Wilson reinterprets a Thelonious Monk favourite, as do the British trio of Matthew Bourne, Dave Kane and Steven Davis.

The once rare Australian jazz classic Eastern Horizons by the Charlie Munro Quartet is highlighted, as is a new set re-issuing two long-unsighted albums by British pianist Michael Garrick. Plus more British jazz history with the recent discovery of tapes of American jazz icon Ben Webster's first European concert recorded at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London in 1964.

Plus a selection from the new duo album by pianist Mike Nock and drummer Laurenz Pike and solo performance from the late saxophonist David S. Ware.
