Jazz Up Late:

The last set

Andrea Keller and Miroslav Bukovsky Octet
Page added Jan 16, 2015 Updated Jan 20, 2015

A crowd of the usual notables gather for one last jam on Jazz Up Late, and leading the pack is the Andrea Keller/Miroslav Bukovsky Octet.

This week we hear more from the recent Jazz Up Late studio recording of Andrea Keller and Miroslav Bukovsky's Komeda Project and from the LP Bernie McGann 1966 - with previously unreleased recordings by Bernie.

We'll also hear from new recordings by Marc Hannaford, the Louis Moholo-Moholo Quartet, the Murray McNabb Group from New Zealand and 'Farmers By Nature' - the trio of pianist Craig Taborn, bassist William Parker and drummer Gerald Cleaver.

We'll revisit a couple of concert recordings - Django Bates' Belovéd and the Monash Art Ensemble at the 2014 Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and the 'MinAfric Orchestra' live at the 2014 Talos Festival in Italy.

And also a few of my favourite recordings from 2014 - Wadada Leo Smith's The Great Lakes Suites, Matt Bauder And Day In Pictures' Nightshades and another memorable Jazz Up Late studio recording session featuring Paul Grabowsky, Mirko Guerrini and Niko Schauble.

See the full playlist here.

Finally, as the last notes are played on this final gig for Jazz Up Late, I'd like to thank everyone who has engaged with the program...listeners, the music scene - both here and abroad - and my ABC colleagues...you have all put in to make this weekly gig what it was!

Like some of the great gigs that we've all heard somewhere - this one for me has been REALLY cool! Thank you.

So until we next meet, keep well... and bye for now.
