Geri Allen was a force to be reckoned with. She grew up in Detroit - a city famed for its musical heritage, before bursting onto the international scene in the 80s, working alongside Charlie Haden, Oliver Lake, Dewey Redman and Greg Osby - as well as leading her own bands. In the 90s, her career blossomed further, with recordings for Blue Note Records as well as a memorable stint with Ornette Coleman. She visited Australia in 2006 for the Wangaratta Jazz Festival - and we'll hear from that Jazztrack recording on this episode (with more coming on Thursday Night Live). We'll also listen to one of her more recent albums from 2016 with David Murray (sax) and Terri Lyne Carrington (drums).

Plus, Sudoko is the inspiration for American trumpeter Jason Palmer for his new recording and Hungarian guitarist Ferenc Snetberger follows up his previous solo release with a trio album on ECM.
