Giant of the piano

Art Tatum
Page added Oct 11, 2012 Updated Oct 19, 2012

Art Tatum was the undisputed king of the keyboard...hear him playing both in solo-mode and with a sextet - on Jazztrack with Mal Stanley.

Jazz at The Philharmonic was a great success for Norman Granz and one the most famous was the concert with Charlie Parker soloing on 'Body and Soul'. No one wanted to solo after him..hear why.

There's some remasters from the UK with Buddy Rich and saxophonist Dick Morrissey.  Hear one of Ray Charles' big hits with a jazz big band from his classic Genius+Soul=Jazz album plus recent releases from Alister Spence and Abel Cross and his Neo Bop Quintet.
