It's not often you find new music on 78rpm phonograph records, but a Melbourne big band has just pressed new music on the old-world format.

Playlist Information

A playlist and listen-again audio are available for 1 month by clicking the play button above after the broadcast.

Andrew Nolte and his jazz orchestra tip their hat to the roots of jazz recording, releasing new music on 78rpm records. Not sure if the ABC still has gramaphones lying around, but thankfully Mal has a digital copy to play on Jazztrack this weekend.

There's also music from George Lewis and Billy Holiday at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival, plus some 80s Art Pepper with a reissue on the Japanese label Atlas.

Love the idea. Nice one guys. Can't wait to hear it.
I've still got a few 78s in my tool-book shed including an ancient Duke Ellington; I'm now inspired to dig them out.
On a fun note, the gentleman photographed looks very debonair indeed.
