Smith lays a golden egg

Jimmy Smith
Page added May 23, 2014 Updated May 24, 2014

On Jazztrack: organist Jimmy Smith cooks up a storm from one his classic early '60s Blue Note recordings - 'Back at The Chicken Shack'.

Back at The Chicken Shack was one of Jimmy Smith's finest recordings and we'll hear the title track, which also features Kenny Burrell and Stanley Turrentine.  Eddie Durham and Oscar Moore helped cement the guitar into jazz and there's two early examples from them.

There's some fine pairings of musicians, including Lester Young with Teddy Wilson and Art Pepper with Zoot Sims.  Plus Sonny Rollins, who keeps up his live touring schedule as documented on his new recording 'Roadshows Vol 3'.
