Playlist Information

A playlist and listen-again audio are available for 1 month by clicking the play button above after the broadcast.

Freddy Logan (bass) and Chris Karan (drums) join Mike Nock (piano) on Move - a live album recorded at the El Rocco club shortly after the trio formed. It's getting a reissue, and we'll sample it on this episode.

Also on the program, Sidney Bechet is the inspiration for American saxophonist Rob Reddy and new release Bechet: Our Contemporary. On top of that, Brisbane's Abbreviations Orchestra releases its second album plus more from clarinettist Anat Cohen, with a lengthy workout on a Milton Nascimento tune from her Brazilian-influenced Luminosa.

Hello Andrew - love your comments.
Would loved to have visited El Rocco, but grew up in Victoria. Yet having lived in Sydney later in life, I'm familiar with the area in which you grew up. Pleased to hear you enjoyed your youth.
And like you, I put listening to jazz ahead of my frequently boring homework. (Who could have cared about doing useless algebraic simultaneous equations, when there was serious music to be heard!) I used to sneak out from home later at night to hear some live jazz too.
Wishing you many more years of joyful listening,
Christopher Lynch.

Re " 3 out Trio" @ El Rocco:- I have 2 vinyl copies and they are definitely amongst my favourites... great memories of El Rocco and 3 Out, Judy Bailey, Serge Ermoll etc. slipping out of the house instead of doing school work... home was Elizabeth Bay & the "Cross" was loads of fun... then not now... in my post 60 yrs live on Sth Australia's West Coast.
Look forward to tuning in this arvo, Andrew
