On Jazztrack: Charlie Parker's first recording for Norman Granz in 1947. Plus a Bird tribute by one of his first employers - Jay McShann.

Jay McShann led a band in Kansas City in the early '40s that brought Charlie Parker to wider notice. We'll hear Jay McShann leading an all star band in Paris in 1989 paying tribute to him.

We'll also hear Charlie Parker from his first session for Norman Granz and a longer than normal (for the time) recording of 'The Bird'.

Pianist Billy Taylor braves four flutes, Zoot Sims goes Zonkin', Mingus with the great trio of Red Norvo and Tal Farlow plus more Kekko Fornarelli and his trio live at Bennetts Lane in Melbourne.
