I am not computer illiterate but I have NOT been able to play Jazz track through this website since it moved from ABC classic FM. This is rubbish.

Missing Mal from Classic FM, now no Jazztrack and no explanation.
Very unhappy- let's remove Mark Scott and return Mal and Jazztrack to Classic FM.

Ok ABZ Jazz: where is Jazztrack tonight? Outraged enough that it is no longer available via mainstream radio (save for the ridiculous timeslot on RN) but to tune in digitally this afternoon and not have it all.... not amused! Some explanation on your website would have been appreciated.

Thank you Mal and ABC support staff for Jazztrack and for continuing in the groove of Jim McLeod and the great Arch McKirdy!
But, PLEASE BRING BACK SATURDAY AND SUNDAY EVENING JAZZTRACK TO ABC CLASSIC FM!
Digital is not a suitable carrier for this programming. It is not even able to be received in all parts of Sydney, let alone more remote locations.
Many of us are unable to afford to replace all our analogue receivers and speakers with digital equipment. I purchased a digital radio (expensive Sony) for a bedroom, but the sound is very tinny. My main radio listening is through a good set of analogue equipment in my living room. Please bring back jazz into my life.

Dear 'ABC Jazz'

Don't thank us for our comments and feedback. Have a look at how disappointed, annoyed, bereft and outraged your listeners now are.

The least that could be done to remedy this is to post the streamed programs on this web page in 256 kbps, 320 kbps and/or as an MP3 podcast at the same sampling resolution(s). That way regional Australia and anyone else online can still access high-quality audio, albeit at a trickle in many places. This should replace or be offered in parallel with the miserably compressed, recessed, muffled and dead-sounding 128 kbps streams that are (pointlessly) here.

Still furious at these senseless and destructive changes to the presentation of an excellent program.

Thanks everyone for your support of Jazztrack's long history supporting the jazz scene in Australia. Please know that the program continues production as it has done in previous years, that of documenting and presenting live and studio performances of Australian and international jazz musicians/composers via two weekly programs, presented by Mal Stanley.

We hope that you can find a way of tuning in each week, either at Jazztrack's traditional timeslot of 5pm Sat/Sun on Digital Radio, or on Digital TV (chan 201), on mobile devices (ABC Radio App) or online (abc.net.au/jazz). Also, in the additional timeslot on ABC RN of 11pm Sat/Sun.

Many of the changes are detailed in the webpage below, which explain specifics of time-zones and repeat broadcasts.

http://abcjazz.net.au/features/abc-jazz-in-2015

In addition to Jazztrack, we would like to share our other weekly programs on ABC Jazz, including:
Jazz with Jessica Nicholas (Thursdays 2pm, Sundays 12pm)
Thursday Night Live (Thursdays 9pm)
Talking Jazz (Fridays 2pm)

ABC Jazz also broadcasts jazz 24/7 in Australia with a weekly featured album, new releases and classic jazz recordings that support and promote both local jazz artists and those from overseas.

Thanks again for your comments and feedback.

I am furious at the changes in timeslot and program streaming quality.

The previous timeslot on ABC FM could not have been better timed for the nature of the program.

This page's archived streams are appalling. You also gave no notice about how and where previous broadcasts were now being archived - they have moved from

http://www.abc.net.au/classic/program/jazztrack/listen-again.htm

to the page I am commenting on now without _any_ information on the previous page pointing to them. Updates to that page simply stopped, again without any explanation or warning.

The streams on this page are of disgustingly poor audio quality. They must have been encoded at 128 kbps or less. They are muffled, recessed and their dynamic range is ultra-compressed. They are impossible to extract easily from the page and play on other software.

WTF are you doing ABC? You seem to be determined to ruin something precious to me and many other listeners.

Why has JazzTrack been moved from the FM band and relegated to a very late time-slot on RN on the weekend? This programming decision does not make sense and judging from other comments, listeners are having reception problems in regional areas on the AM band. I and my friends enjoyed listening to the JazzTrack early evening on Saturday and Sundays. Please return JazzTrack to its original time spot on the FM band. It is really sad to see on many fronts what is happening to our ABC.
Lillian.

We are devastated at the loss of Jazztrack from ABC FM. The time slot at Radio National is too late for us, listening on the computer is unsatisfactory, also the TV and we do not have digital radio reception. Please please bring it back, we have been listening for years. Thanks to Mal Stanley for a great show, what can we do to get it back?
Cheers,
Sue and Ken.

I listened to jazztrack whilst on my evening weekend shifts driving buses in Canberra. My passengers were exposed to a lot of great jazz whilst tuned in to the ABC on my radio. That is no more thanks to the decision to take it away from classic Fm. Very, very dissapointed in the decision. A very poor decision.

I agree with many of other people out there. I miss JazzTracks tremendously. And I'm going to put a political spin on the whole thing. First it was good old John Howard and now it's Tony Abbott and his gang. What is it with these Liberals that they want to choke the ABC to death? Don't they understand we live in a society and not an economy? When will they figure out without society there is NO economy? I could go on but I'd better not.

PLEASE bring back JazzTracks. I've been listening to it for years and I miss it greatly. I used to look forward to the programs on the weekends and highly recommended it to many friends and associates. And unfortunately I don't yet have a digital radio.

GK.

A friend told me that she has taken 'leave of absence' from the jazz scene.
Is this so?

Three cheers to Mal Stanley for sounding so optimistic in the promo about the 'challenge' of Jazztrack's new timeslot of 11pm Sat and Sun on ABC Radio National.
After existing in stereo and at the friendly time of 5-7pm for so many years on Classic, (who can forget the joy of having a bevvie, preparing the evening meal and listening in!) his optimism is the only bright spot in what is surely a ridiculous decision by someone to 'bury' one of the best programs. You just have to ask "why, oh Why?"

I am dismayed that Jazztrack has been removed from the weekend Classic FM timeslots 5-7pm. This is a fabulous show that I liked to listen to whilst having a relaxing drink and preparing the weekend evening meals. Please return Jazztrack to its previous slot on Classic FM. ABC Classic FM is becoming more conservative in its programming. I noticed in the last year that the music choice on Classic FM Drive has changed too - a more narrow music focus. And Background Briefing has been axed! What is happening to our ABC?

I've got to tell you that I really missed jazztracks on the weekend. Saturday and Sundays at 5pm. ABC classic FM. That's where Jazztracks belongs.

Regional Australia abandoned! Thank you Jane Atkinson and Steven Lewis for sharing your dismay at ABC abandoning what used to work so well for jazz lovers. Seems like the city-centric decision makers just don't understand what an important role radio plays when it is the only channel of communication with the rest of the world. You would hope that these Sydney-centric media bogans (shame on you) would understand that there is no coverage for digital radio out here where there is no phone or TV coverage. But it seems they don't.

Best wishes to those that share a love of refined ideas... Simon Pockley (Warrumbungles).

Please reinstate Jazztracks on previous timeslots. Jazz can be seen as classical, at least as crossover, very frequently, and we regular classics listeners enjoy the mix. Can't tell you how much we enjoyed a Saturday pre-dinner drink with Mal, and now he's been relegated to gone to Oh-God-O-Clock, or fiddle around with the internet when you're trying to use it for something else, so it restarts all the time.. Didn't do this on purpose because of the election this weekend did you?
Jane Atkinson.

To whom it may concern;
PLEASE bring back Jazz Up Late with Jerry Koster...the time slot was perfect and the accessibility on FM Radio was handy...Not everyone has a digital radio or access to one, when listening to jazz on the ABC...ABC Classic FM have, in one clean swoop, eliminated a vast intelligent listener base, by removing ALL jazz programming from Classic FM and not understood the variety Jazz Up Late would have had to ABC Jazz Digital...Why on earth has Jazz Up Late been canned...after 8 solid years! A very many jazz listener and musician needed this show! It was new, often confronting musically and always educational. I believe ABC Classic FM and ABC Jazz Digital have successfully alienated a major section of their listener audience by not appreciating the significance of Jazz Up Late and should bring back Jazz Up Late or a programme of comparative equal significance, before the damage to the listener base to Jazz music at ABC is irreparable! Jazz Up Late really complimented the mostly mainstream jazz presented at ABC radio...Insane decision to remove Jazz Up Late...AT LEAST! it could have moved to ABC Jazz!...intelligent management call(where was the market research)...word of mouth is the greatest fatal knife to any organisation...even Government funded? orgs such as the ABC! BRING BACK THE SHOW!...Nice!

Regards;
Steven Lewis-Jazz Educator and Musician.

1. Are playlists still available now that Jazztrack is no longer on Classic FM?
If so, where?
2. Why was no explicit mention made anywhere (e.g. in programs, on line, in the weekly newsletter ..) that ABC Jazz Digital Radio was reinstating a 3 hour delay, (given daylight saving in Eastern states), to its to West Australian transmissions from this week? Still, as no indication was given last September when the delay was removed, I suppose it was not surprising. Still if ABC expects us to listen to specific programs, it would be nice if we knew when they were on!

Seems that non-major-capital cities jazz lovers are left out in the cold. No digital service available, and listening on my computer is not exactly the way one wants to enjoy jazz..... ABC FM is available in most areas, so why this action to cut us off? and replace it with colorless middle of the road 'movies music'? - even classics fans (and I do listen to a lot of classics - yes on ABCFM) will not be pleased ! Makes no sense at all, and does nothing for customer relations.

Hi Simon, ways to listen to Jazztrack in 2015 are highlighted here: http://abcjazz.net.au/frequently-asked-questions

If you have digital TV (i.e. a set-top box or a digital tuner - which covers both metro and rural areas), you can access ABC Jazz on channel 201, or you can catch the Jazztrack repeats on RN at 11pm on Saturday and Sunday nights (your frequency would be 107.9FM for the Central Western Slopes). Jazztrack episodes are also available as streaming audio after broadcast (see 'Listen again'). Thanks for listening.

On Jan 12, 2015. 3:15pm

I don't have internet or phone coverage where I live (Warrumbungles). But I go to town one a week where I can access low bandwidth internet (5KB/sec) in the town library. In the post ABC Classic FM world am I able to download pod casts of Jazz Track? My world will be diminished without access to this program.

The more I hear of pianist Joseph O'Connor, the more I'm convinced that we have been blessed with an extraordinarily gifted, creative musician in our very midst. (I've been listening to countless jazz pianists and other musicians both live and on record since the early sixties, and therefore feel I can spot a unique musical voice when I hear it.) O'Connor's sound and touch on the keyboard are tasteful and very much his own. In his way, O'Connor is as original as the outstanding Brad Meldhau. Naturally, I'm delighted to know he'll be recording in the ABC studios and of course I'll be purchasing his album upon release. Incidentally, I suspect somebody like Manfred Eicher would be thrilled to have Joseph O'Connor on the ECM recording roster too. He'd fit in marvellously there!
Cheers and happy listening to all,
Christopher Lynch.

One of the not-so-good aspects of getting older - I'm well into my sixties - is that one constantly hears of the deaths of boyhood musical and other heroes including Nelson Mandela. Therefore, I was saddened Mal to hear of the passings of Jim Hall and Chico hamilton in addition to Stan Tracey, all over the past week or so.
I forward at least to any musical tributes coming.

Hi again Mal,
As always, there was a delightful selection of music during this weekend's Jazztrack programmes.
Yet there are times when one hears a track beyond today; something that makes time stand still.
Such was the case yesterday with that closing inclusion by the Bennie Maupin Ensemble. Bennie's haunting alto flute playing emanated from another time and place - a mystical place beyond life's often grim paradigm. So impressed was the Jazzbear that he kept repeating those sounds in his head for the remainder of Sunday evening! Nothing else went on the stereo.
I know I can be a pest at times Mal, but any chance of hearing more from that intriguing album?
Further to my comment yesterday on Stan Tracey, the Dylan thomas album I had in mind was "Under Milk Wood'.
Once more, thanks for your continually outstanding efforts.
Cheers,
Christopher Lynch.
