Nguyen Le 4by3
Page added Apr 21, 2017 Updated May 22, 2017

This week we're spending time with artists from Korea and Vietnam who fuse jazz with elements of traditional music from their own countries.

Playlist Information

A playlist and listen-again audio are available for 1 month by clicking the play button above after the broadcast.

We'll hear from Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le (pictured), who's just at home playing jazz versions of Pink Floyd tunes as he is collaborating with a traditional Vietnamese vocalist. Then there's Black String from South Korea, featuring the unlikely combination of electric guitar and geomungo (a type of zither). And South Korean-born singer Youn Sun Nah offers a Brazilian-flavoured tune with her European group. Plus we'll hear from two superb New Zealand-born pianists: Mike Nock and Jonathan Crayford

Anything to do with the promotion of innovative Asian jazz has my ongoing support. Particularly love Youn Sun Nah's extraordinary vocals. Truly unique. Nice one Korea!
