Bernie McGann takes centre-stage on the show this week, with live music recorded in Sydney at a SIMA concert celebrating his 75th birthday.

Also on the show: we sample new releases by US bassist Marc Johnson (co-leading a quartet with his wife Eliane Elias) and Melbourne pianist Gemma Turvey.  Plus there’s music from John Abercrombie, Peter Petrucci and the Count Basie Orchestra.

Bernie McGann (born 22 June 1937) is an Australian jazz alto saxophone player. He began his career in the late 1950s and is still active as a performer, composer and recording artist. Born in Granville, New South Wales, in Sydney's western suburbs, McGann first came to prominence as part of a loose alliance of modern jazz musicians who performed at the El Rocco Jazz Cellar in Kings Cross, Sydney...
