Peacock out in front

Gary Peacock 16by9
Page added Jul 23, 2015 Updated Jul 25, 2015

American bassist Gary Peacock turned 80 this year, and to celebrate, he's released a new album - 'Now This' - under his own name.

Peacock is a long-time member of the Keith Jarrett Standards Trio, but for this outing he teams up with two empathetic and collaborative colleagues, Marc Copland and Joey Baron.  We'll dip into the album on this week's show, along with new releases by the ever-adventurous Tim Berne and Norway's SkyDive Trio.  We'll also hear from Tal Cohen, newly anointed as the 2015 Freedman Jazz Fellow.  And we pay tribute to British pianist John Taylor, who has passed away at the age of 72.
