Mark Turner Fix
Page added Mar 2, 2015 Updated Mar 5, 2015

A show highlighting the latest music to hit the ABC Jazz playlist. On this inaugural episode, we hear from Mark Turner's 'Lathe of Heaven'.

Jessica Nicholas previews some of the latest albums to arrive at ABC Jazz. First up is the much anticipated release from New York saxophonist Mark Turner. Lathe of Heaven is Turner's first album as a leader in over 13 years, as well as his first with the ECM label. The band is a chord-less quartet, with Turner on tenor, Avashai Cohen on trumpet, Joe Martin on bass and Marcus Gilmore on drums. On the show, we'll hear 'Sonnet for Stevie,' a blues-based exploration dedicated to Stevie Wonder.

Also on the playlist - the latest from pianist Michael Wollny, with a new live album, Danish saxophonist Christina Dahl and the Tolvan Big Band from Sweden.

Hear New Releases on ABC Jazz each Monday at 9pm and Saturday at 10am. Check in with the latest episode at the program page here.
