Thursday Night Live:

Maria Schneider and the JMO

Page added Apr 20, 2015 Updated Jan 22, 2016

To celebrate the 2016 Sydney Festival, we're featuring the iconic composer Maria Schneider live with the JMO, recorded at last year's event.

Sydney's Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra are one of Australia's leading big bands, and they are constantly collaborating with national and international artists. For the 2015 Sydney Festival, the JMO headed a double bill set at the City Recital Hall, with the Belgian pianist Jef Neve and the GRAMMY award winning composer and arranger Maria Schneider.

ABC Jazz was lucky enough to record the concert, and on this episode of Thursday Night Live, we will hear the second set with Maria Schneider. Schneider brought a number of her arrangements to the table, including two compositions from her 2015 release The Thompson Fields.

What a pity - you have a wonderful concert with a high quality recording that could give money to the musicians if only they could be sold! What about selling it online? It would not require a lot of effort to set it up via iTunes. As for the Thompson Fields album, I'm already a supporter and I'm waiting eagerly to get my CDs!

Hi @WayneJHarris - unfortunately that was a one-off broadcast. However, she will be releasing her new album this June, titled 'The Thompson Fields.' You can find more on her website - see the Links section above. Thanks for listening!

It was a fantastic concert. Is there any way to purchase a CD?
