About
one saturday night in Sept 1982, before i was eighteen, instead of trying to get into the pub with my mates, i stayed home and listened to the ABC Classic FM's great program Currently Playing Rock. They broadcast DiMeola/McLaughlin/DeLucia's Short Tales of the Black Forest, and announced that in the following week they would broadcast a live concert of Shakti. i was intrigued, this was a classical station, with a cursory nod to rock n roll, playing this hybrid jazz stuff. I was hooked, then discovered Jazztrack, and PBS-FM in Melbourne. THe rest, is kinda history. My favourite jazz gig was the Bill Frisell gig at the Forum during the 2009 Jazz Festival ( I am a big Frisell fan, and met him after the master class)

the melbourne concert was brilliant, exceeded expectations, well worth a listen (see above), particularly the encore!
particularly when he hooks up with medeski martin and wood, the uber cool funkmeisters!
